Kailanis Breeding program

Additional Information

We hold ourselves to AKC breeding standards.  Our dogs are part of our family.  We love them and want the best for them.  We are members of the Bred with H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, Accountability, Responsibility, Tradition) program.  Health testing, titles and pedigrees are important parts of our breeding program.  Health testing doesn’t just mean testing hips and elbows.  We complete extensive DNA testing to make sure that all our puppy parents are not carriers of dangerous hereditary diseases.  We complete all the available tests for Labradors through the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals).  We check at a minimum four generation pedigrees to be sure we are not “inbreeding” / “Line Breeding” our puppies.   We want all of our puppies to have the best temperament and trainability possible.  Titles are a way to show this.  A dog who is not able to be titled may not be the best choice to breed.  There are many options for titles.  We choose to “hunt title” our Labradors.  AKC offers Junior Hunter (JH), Senior Hunter (SH) and Master Hunter (MH).  The first step towards a “hunt title” is successful completion of obedience training.  Once the dog has completed this step they can move on to more difficult skills.  We evaluate each dog as an individual to determine the level of titles appropriate for them. Each of our dams has at least a Junior Hunter title.  Many also have CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and TKN (Trick Dog Novice) titles.  As responsible breeders we find good homes for our puppies and stay in touch with our owners as a resource to answer questions.
